In its 11th edition, the LICHTER Filmfest finds a home in one of Frankfurt's oldest cinema venues: around 100 years ago, the first cultural film theatre in Frankfurt opened its doors in the Zoo-Gesellschaftshaus. Forty years later, the long-time zoo director and Oscar®-winning animal filmmaker Bernhard Grzimek continued this cinema tradition with the "Zoo-Lichtspiele". In 2018, LICHTER brings that spirit back and turns the Zoo-Gesellschaftshaus into their festival home. Keeping with this year's annual theme "Chaos", the cultural program of the Fritz Rémond Theatre, which is located there today, will be rounded off by the regional and international film program hand-picked by the LICHTER team. Be ready for a place where wild animals, theatregoers and cinema connoisseurs meet each other.
Also the Naxoshalle will again be part of the LICHTER Filmfest – and the former factory hosts a very special attraction: our unique and breathtaking autoscooter cinema: colourful lights, cool beats and rapid speed make the old walls quake. The Virtual Reality Storytelling Competition completes the 360 full experience.
LICHTER 2018 also remains true to Mal Seh' n Kino and the Deutsches Filmmuseum. The cooperation with these institutions in Frankfurt has proven itself over the past few years. This is why we are delighted to be able to play both of them again in the 11th edition!
For the first time, LICHTER will find a temporary home in Sachsenhausen's Arthaus-Kino Harmonie this year. And of course, the guest performance in the neighbouring city of Offenbach is also a must. The Venue 2018: the filmklubb.
