2nd Congress FUTURE GERMAN FILM – Forum Europe

Save the Date! The 2nd congress ZUKUNFT DEUTSCHER FILM, which had to be postponed several times due to the pandemic, will now take place parallel to the 15th LICHTER Filmfest from May 11 to 13, 2022.

More than ever, streaming is transnationalizing markets, making it difficult for smaller productions in particular, but European cinema as a whole is also increasingly on the defensive globally. European film culture urgently needs to organize itself politically and develop new perspectives for action. This requires an intensive exchange between the individual countries and their filmmakers. We would like to offer a forum for this with the 2nd congress FUTURE GERMAN FILM: the FORUM EUROPE.

Representatives from various European countries will discuss relevant questions, develop concepts and explain possibilities of cooperation in different discussion formats. Differences, strengths and weaknesses of individual funding models and production methods will be worked out and common challenges and approaches to solutions will be identified. Topics such as film education, university training and career prospects for young filmmakers will also be part of the program.

Among other things, events will deal with the future of European film culture, public film funding and alternative financing models for artistic films, the exploitation of films in the area of conflict between cinema and streaming, new and visionary models for the cinema of the future and the challenges for filmmakers in a changing film landscape in Europe. The congress will be accompanied by a film series on current German film.

Some of the events will be held in cooperation with FERA (Federation of European Screen Directors), the Hauptverband Cinephilie and the initiative Zukunft Kino+Film.

The congress welcomes a special guest of honor: COSTA-GAVRAS IS MR. EUROPEAN CINEMA.

Coming from Greece, he studied in France and has been making films there for over 50 years. Like no other director he deals with the politics and history of the European continent. From "Z" and "Amen" to the current "Adults in the Room", which deals with the Greek financial crisis. Also, as president of the Cinémathèque Française, he is the supreme guardian of French film heritage.
