8 Questions for “LIVE” director Lisa Charlotte Friedrich and producer Rike Huy

The actress Lisa Charlotte Friedrich is writer and director of her first feature film “LIVE”. In co-operation with musician Rike Huy, who is also responsible for the music in the film, Lisa Charlotte Friedrich also took care of film production.

The feature film “LIVE”, which was shot at different locations in Frankfurt, tells the story of a world defined by terror, in which public gatherings are prohibited and cultural life is only possible in virtuality.

1. Residence: Frankfurt am Main

2. What gave you the idea to make a film about a world defined by terror, in which public gatherings are prohibited and cultural life is only possible in virtuality?

The attacks on the Bataclan in Paris, the Christmas Market at the Breidtscheidt Square or the recent terrorist attack in Hanau give us a sense of how fragile our public life is. As an actress and a musician, we love the moment of congregation on stage and in the auditorium a lot. This moment of community is irreplaceable. To speak of the danger in which this society is was the original idea behind the setting of “LIVE”. We never would have expected that Corona would take this feeling of community from us for different reasons.

3. “Power” is the focus topic of the 13th LICHTER Filmfestival. What would your first act after obtaining power be?

In our film, it’s a faceless terror that erases public life. At the moment, it’s a faceless, invisible virus which brings the world to a halt. As wonderwomen just come into power, first we would take the virus to task, dismantle it, give its blueprint to scientists and have a vaccine in the evening, with which, the day after tomorrow, we could supply the whole world – for free. Accompanied by a glas of champagne.

4. Which significance does the big screen have for you?

In the cinema, people gather in a dark room to experience something there that will tell them something about themselves and their lives. We love this process and are convinced that we have to tell ourselves old and new stories time and time again. On the one hand, so that we are not that special with our emotions, hardships and desires. All of it has existed before us. And on the other hand, so that we understand that these emotions, hardships and desires are everything that constitutes our life on this planet.

5. Whom do you see as the future of German cinema?

The lines in front of the cinemas, as soon as they are allowed to reopen.

6. My biggest sucess was ...

…to develop, finance, make and finish our film “LIVE” from start to finish and then celebrate its premiere in a sold-out cinema hall in Saarbrücken.

7. If I hadn't gone into film, I would probably…

… be working for an intelligence agency (Lisa), be stacking firewood in Canada (Rike).

8. My favourite film scene of all times is…

… the Odessa-stair-scene from „Battleship Potemkin“ (Lisa), Bathroom-Dance from „Joker“ (Rike)
