Blue My Mind
15-year old Mia and her parents have moved to a different city. When she tries to find her place at her new school, she gets involved with a clique of girls, whose rebellious lifestyle she soon takes on as well – shoplifting, sex and alcohol. But soon after, her body begins to change drastically. The changes are far more dramatic than those of any of her new friends, and suddenly cannot be explained by puberty anymore. First, her toes grow together, then the mysterious transformation slowly continues up her legs. Mia’s emotional state threatens to plunge into chaos. When faced with the inexorable power with which her body changes, uncertainty, fear and aggression spread and take hold of her.
Blue My Mind is an exceptional coming-of-age drama, which painfully presents the ways in which Mia tries to make sense of living with a new body.
Blue My Mind won threefold at the 13th Zurich Film Festival: it won the Main Prize endowed with 10.000 swiss francs, as well as the Critic’s prize. Additionally, Lisa Brülhmann was awarded the first Filmprize of the Zurich Churches. She has also fit her family into Blue My Mind. Her daughter Loulou Locher is seen in the first scene, as a young Mia at the beach. Her husband Dominik acts as the teacher, Eric.
