Im Spinnwebaus [In the Spiderweb’s House]

Mara Eibl-Eibesfeldt

Once upon a time... Jonas, 12 years old, cares responsibly for his two siblings and often also for his mother who is haunted by “demons” and withdraws more and more back into herself. When she disappears into the “Sonnental” one day, her children face the challenge of keeping up appearances as they by no means want to be taken to an orphanage. Easier said than done. Soon they are literally in over their heads and the Spinnwebhaus turns into their own enchanted world. *Mara Eibl-Eibesfeldts* empathetic feature film debut tells the story of growing up as a dark fairytale exclusively from the point-of-view of the siblings who are taken aback by their mother's psychological problems. The atmospheric density is created by subtle observations of daily life, but it is overall the black and white style that gives voice to the fantasy world of the children. *_Im Spinnwebhaus_* celebrated its premiere in the section *Perspektive Deutsches Kino* at the *Berlinale 2015*.

*_Im Spinnwebhaus_* received the *Prix Europa* as *Best European TV Drama* in 2015. The statement of the jury reads: _“Television films are fairytales of our times in different genres: crime stories, war films or all sorts of social dramas. The winner is an outstanding script combined with extraordinary performances and visual style. The most difficult things to direct are children and animals – here we have both of them. This story tells the tale of abandoned siblings surviving weeks without their mother. They are surrounded byanimals ranging from crows and bugs to spiders. This film turns out to be less of a social drama than a modern fairy tale of surviving - shot in black and white."_
