50 Jahre Otrag - Fly Rocket Fly
Oliver Schwehm
When Elon Musk was still in nappies, the Swabian engineer Lutz Kayser was already developing a concept for low-budget rockets, which led him to found the world's first private space company in 1974.
Orbital Transport- und Raketen AG, based in Neu-Isenburg, provided the necessary financial resources to get off to a flying start. He also knew how to circumvent the ban on rocket launches in Germany. In Mobutu Sese Seko, the President of Zaire, he found a benevolent supporter who leased OTRAG a gigantic test site. However, the young entrepreneurs around Lutz Kayser soon found themselves at the centre of a global political conflict.
In the meantime, a veritable cult has developed around the space company. The story and the film have inspired space nerds all over the world to launch OTRAG rockets with AI. To mark the company's 50th anniversary, we are showing the marvellous Fly Rocket Fly once again at Lichter. Director Oliver Schwehm will personally guide us through the film and present the craziest AI launches in person. Let the rockets fly!
