A Film About Couples

A Film About Couples (Una Película Sobre Parejas)

Natalia Cabral, Oriol Estrada

A film about a film about couples: Natalia and Oriol have not only been a couple for 13 years, they also make films together. At least when they are not currently discussing who is directing, whether a cactus is worth filming or if parents always have to do everything perfectly. In this mockumentary, the filmmakers curtly act as themselves and show how similar film and love can actually be.

Press Reviews

„It is a feature film about filming a documentary and simultaneously a documentary about the filming of a feature film. With lots of humour and clarity, the film demystifies the filmmakers’ work and shows the realities and difficulties that exist during filming in the Dominican Republic today.“ (Nicolas Azalbert. Program director, Festival Biarritz Amérique Latine)

A Film about Couples is a breath of fresh air. An alternative way to not take yourself too seriously and simultaneously an opportunity to reflect. A nice lesson from Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada.“ (Veronica Ranocchi, I Cinemaniaci Blog)

The Directors About the Film

„The viewers of our films often ask us what it is like to direct together as a couple. This is a question to which the answer changes everyday. (…) The filming was a confusing but fascinating adventure. The border between fiction and reality was oftentimes fluid, but we let us get carried away by the spontaneity of real couples without losing sight of the personality of our alter egos and the central story. (…) Thus, A Film about Couples became metafiction and autofiction. A film that wants to make people laugh and think about how ridiculous and gentle we all can be when we share our love with someone and try to keep our individuality at the same time; a concise, humorous and moving experience about the contradictory behaviour of a couple who tries to understand love and cinema.“ (Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada)
