Aggregat

Marie Wilke

Followed by: Talk with Marie Wilke (Director) & Rudolf Worschech (Editor-in-chief epd Film)

Germany in a time of upheaval: the so-called “refugee crisis“ and right-wing populism put the democratic system to the test. SPD politicians dispute in a workshop abot how they should deal with right-wing populist slogans. Pegida adherents chant at Dresden’s marketplace: „Close the borders!”

BILD and taz journalists talk about the topics of the day – Syrians who have committed criminal offences, Merkel, Xi Jiping and pandas at Berlin Zoo. Without comment, the camera captures these fragments of the years 2016 and 2017 which focus on conveying politics. Aggregat is not a narrative, but a collection of images, impressions and fragments of the political and medial present which illustrates one thing in particular: We cannot lean back, but must keep an eye on the grand democratic idea at all times.

Aggregat was filmed in 2016 and 2017 in the editorial offices of BILD and taz newspapers, in the ARD capital city studio, in conference halls of the Bundestag, on Dresden’s marketplace and in Saxony’s restaurants. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale in 2018.
