Alcarrás

Alcarràs

Carla Simón

The family Solé is shocked when they find an eviction notice in their postbox. They have until the end of the summer until they are supposed to leave their land, which has been their source of income for generations. The young Pinyol won’t honour the verbal agreement between both families. Instead of cheap peaches only bringing in cents, he wishes to invest in lucrative solar panels on his land. The coming harvest may well be the last fort he Solés family on the estate in the idyllic landscape of Alcarràs. Everyone in the family has his or her own way to deal with the loss and change. One may be very loud in his grief, others completely silent.

Director and writer Carla Simón tells a story of tradition and change, conflict and connection with profound pictures. The drama was crowned the best film at the Berlinale with the Goldener Bär.

About the director

Director and writer Carla Simón was born in 1986 in Barcelona and studied Audiovisual Communication in Barcelona and California. Just as in her debut feature filmSummer 1993, she treats autobiographical themes in Alcarràs and portrays the region of the same name in the north of Spain, where her own family comes from. To present the Catalan language and the region as authentically as possible, she cast local workers for the film.

The director on the film
