Water is the source and basis of all life on earth. In Aquarela, the supposedly silent element itself acts as protagonist. Director Viktor Kossakovsky's breathtaking pictures show – using 96 frames per second – the overwhelming power this force of nature is capable of. Ranging from the vehemence of Hurricane Irma in Miami to the frightening beauty of Angel Falls in Venezuela, the potential strength of water mass becomes quite obvious. In the end, human beings are not able to tame it. 

Aquarela is no typical documentary about the wonders of nature, narrated by a gentle off­screen voice. On the contrary: spectacular pictures and stirring music let one positively dive into the water and afterwards leave the cinema with sweaty hands.

With its premiere at the Internationale Filmfestspiele von Venedig, Aquarela's competition at all renowned festivals began. The US ­premiere took place at Sundance Film Festival in the section „New Frontier“. At the 62nd BFI London Film Festival, the screenings and Q&As ensured sold­ out halls.
