Bellas Mariposas
Salvatore Mereu
The Italian youth is back! The beautiful butterflies (the translation of the title) from a prefabricated high-rise building in Cagliari hit this film with such a force that one forgets the stink of Berlusconi's private TV culture at once and the audience is put under a spell for nearly two hours. Two girls, about 12 years old, live in the worst possible circumstances: an unemployed, no-good father, an overwhelmed mother and petty-criminal friends. But from the first moment on, when they tell their stories directly to the camera, they take everything they need for a fast-paced summer. Tarantino amongst the Italian precariat? Fellini on speed ? Loach in funny? A little bit from all of this, and - in passing - an intimate portrait of the Sardinian capital.
