Bikini Moon
Milcho Manchevski
Bikini Moon Davis used to be a carpenter, then a soldier. The Iraq war spit her back out: onto the streets of New York. The custody for her daughter has been revoked, and if she misses to take her pills, she soon plunges into a cruel world of fantasy and memories. In such a state she meets the couple Kate and Skyler, ambitious filmmakers that want to help her – in exchange for an unforgiving, direct documentation of her everyday life. All too soon, the film project turns from portrait into an experimental arrangement that becomes potentially disastrous for Bikini Moon, Kate and Skyler. This docu-fiction challenges our expectations of what it means to be a good person. But Condola Raschad (as Bikini Moon) also manages to poignantly show what it means to return to a functioning society from a country at war, in which all rules for communal life have been shattered.
