Boney M: Disco. Macht. Legende.
Oliver Schwehm
Q&A with the director, Precious Wilson, singer of the band Eruption, and the film crew.
Daddy - Daddy Cool - Ra-Ra-Rasputin: Boney M. is music history. With their hits, the group became a global phenomenon, and their success continues to shape pop culture to this day. BONEY M: Disco. Macht. Legende. looks behind the worldwide success of the disco and tells a story of fame, criticism, and a surprising connection to Offenbach. In collaboration with ARD, we present the documentary as an exclusive festival premiere.
The worldwide success of the disco legend left a lasting mark. But who are the people behind the songs? And what does their success have to do with a recording studio in Offenbach?
The documentary features singers Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett, along with producer Frank Farian, and their friends and close companions. It paints a portrait of their rise at a time when the four Black performers were not treated fairly: sold-out tours and global fame were always accompanied by criticism and exoticisation. BONEY M: Disco. Macht. Legende finally gives its story the stage it deserves.
