Building Cinemas, Building Europe – On the Future of European Cinema Buildings

Panel

What crossovers, what differences exist within architectonic approaches? Which guiding principles, what understanding of space does cinema architecture follow? What role do ideas of urban development play? Christoph Hochhäusler will discuss these and many more questions at the start of the congress with architects Hugo Herrera Pianno and Dietmar Feistel, who will also introduce their respective cinema designs.

Spanish architect Hugo Herrera Pianno works for Baumschlager Eberle Architekten and is responsible for the European Film Center Camerimage. Dietmar Feistel (Delugan Meissl Associated Architects) not only designed the Haus für Film und Medien for the city of Stuttgart but was also responsible for the famous EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. He lets us know that “our office and I in particular were already infected by the film virus long before our project for the EYE in Amsterdam.”
