Kann Kunst die Welt retten?

Can Art Save the World?

"Everything is art. Everything is politics." (Ai Weiwei)

In the 1980s, Gerhard Richter described art as the "highest form of hope". What role does art play today; in a world devastated by crises, wars, and social divison?

Can art provide answers, suggest solutions and create spaces for new ways of thinking where political discourse reaches its limits? Or do we turn to art "in order not to die of the truth", as Friedrich Nietzsche suggested. Can creativity and experiencing art truly change lives?

This panel expands on themes from a four-part series on 3Sat's Kulturzeit with dedicated artists from film, opera, and the visual arts, as well as the author of the series. There will be discussions about the power and visibility of art, threats posed budget cuts and political influence, and lastly, the question of wether art can save the world, or if it's necessary for us to save art first.
