Thomas Stuber

When forklift trucks dance the waltz… An East German romance in post-DEFA style based on a short story by Clemens Meyer from Leipzig. Finally, a feature film about completely common people. Working hard in a supermarket with attached warehouse. The sea is there and there is Siberia. Meyer knows what he is writing about: he himself has worked as a forklift driver. The story: “Newbie” Christian needs to learn the ropes first; Marion from the sweets section introduces him to the secrets of the job. But she keeps a secret herself. Thomas Stuber’s lyrical love affair about two who have lost at the German reunification, received the awards of the Ecumenical Jury and the Guild of German Cinematics on this year’s Berlinale; it is nominated for the German Film Award.
In den Gängen is a melancholic love story, carefully observed and fantastically casted. For fans of Andreas Dresen’s films.
The Hessische Rundfunk is involved as coproducer.
Jessica Kiang of Variety thinks that one could watch Sandra Hüller and Franz Rogowski forever as they take timid looks at each other, with their sometimes serious, from time to time also joyful or roguish eyes.
