Der Fleck
Willy Hans
The air shimmers with heat, water drifts lazily - a landscape half asleep. Simon skips gym and meets a group of young people by the riverbank. They lie in the sun, talk, smoke, let the hours pass by. Conversations are lost in the sound of the current, glances are caught in the sunlight. Only when Marie turns up does Simon's dull afternoon appear to take a turn for the better. After an unexpected incident, the two set off into the wild river valley, a naturally beautiful intermediate realm in its own space and time, far removed from reality. In an interplay of hesitant gestures and awkward approaches, Simon and Marie gradually find each other.
In poetic, half-asleep images, Der Fleck speaks of the beauty of the indeterminate. Quiet, surreal and full of unspoken words, the film is rooted in the moment, dispensing with classical dramaturgy and instead letting images and sounds do the talking. Shot on 16mm, the camera captures the rustling of leaves, the hesitation of a gaze, lingering on the reflection of light on the surface of the water. A meditative cinematic experience between lightness, latent unease and youthful aimlessness.

Press reviews
“Through the composition of the cinematic means and the interactions of the various protagonists, the film is reminiscent of the phenomenon of solastalgia - a term that describes a distressing feeling of loss that arises when someone witnesses the change or destruction of their own home or habitat. This feeling, which affects young people in particular as they watch their home earth being destroyed and often leads to depression and lethargy, is captured impressively in Der Fleck.“ (Mateja Meded, Kino-Zeit)
Willy Hans about the film
“Water, chicken, volleyball, Moped, love, dog, forest, tall grass, youth, stones, river, cigarettes, sausages, techno, wind, birthday, present, chips with ketchup - I like all of that. I wanted to make a movie about it.”
