A terraced house in Frankfurt, an Advent dinner, a family – that is all Ein Abend im Dezember needs. What starts out as a festive dinner, quickly turns into an unsettling chamber play as a disturbing message comes in. Nobody leaves the house, but the ambiance shifts from room to room: from kindness to distrust, from concern to absurd accusations. The festive facade crackles more and more in the small space, phrase after phrase. Similar to claustrophobic ensemble films like The Celebration or Carnage, the living room in this film becomes the setting of an increasingly bizarre evening, that cracks open the familiar idyll.
