European Streaming or Everything on ARTE?
Panel
On May 30, 1992, the Franco-German television channel ARTE went on air for the first time - conceived as a European cultural channel. What has remained of this great idea? On the one hand, the channel itself is nationally differentiated, on the other hand, it shows its programme in up to six languages. What can we learn from these experiences? What could a European cultural channel between nationhood and monotony look like? The central question is whether Europeans can come closer together at all with the help of television and what role public service media will play in the Europe of tomorrow - or would a common European streaming service perhaps be the solution?
