We need inspiring, engaged and well-funded film education 365 days a year. What sounds like a no-brainer turns out to be quite complicated in practice. Ambiguously located between the departments of culture and education, undermined by the buzzword “audience development” and at times invisible, the significance of film education in politics and the industry is still limited. In this panel, we want to counter this with various voices with fervent ambition to continuously and sustainably shape film education. How can we succeed in expanding existing spaces and opening up new ones? How can freelance film educators and filmmakers be encouraged to introduce young people to their medium and to cinema as a cultural venue? And what do young people think about this?
