Gaza Surf Club

Philip Gnadt, Mickey Yamine

*Music:* Sary Hany, *Sound:* Mohammed Alsousi *_FOLLOWING TALK WITH DIRECTOR AND PRODUCTION_* Skimpy bikinis, white sand dream beaches and the easy life – the surfers of Gaza have little in common with such Baywatch stereotypes. Instead of palm trees, concrete ruins line the beach. The equipment consists of old wooden boards smuggled across the frontier. And anyhow, water sports are prohibited to women. Despite or even because of all the adversities, surfing means a lot to the youth in Gaza. Ibrahim dreams of his own surf shop and a trip to Hawaii. As a child, Sabah was a passionate surfer. As a young woman, she is now no longer allowed onto a surfboard and risks a lot for her longing for the sea. The director *PHILIP GNADT*, born in 1974 in Bad Soden/Taunus, portrays a generation on the verge of a new era. Trapped in the narrow coastal strip between Israel and Egypt, the young Palestinians associate water sports with political protest, economic hope and the longing for freedom. In 2013, the project *_GAZA SURF CLUB_* (working title: *_THREE MILE RIDERS_*) was awarded the _Film Funding Award_ of the *ROBERT BOSCH STIFTUNG*. *_GAZA SURF CLUB_* celebrated its world premiere at the *TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (TIFF 2016)*, followed by further screenings at the *INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL AMSTERDAM (IDFA 2016)* and the *DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (DIFF 2016)*. *_Gaza Surf Club_* will be also shown on Thursday, 30th March at "*Hafenkino Offenbach*":http://www.hafen2.net/1-0-Programm.html?show=page&type=art_kat_4.
