Greed
Erich von Stroheim
_"Stroheim adapted the naturalistic novel McTeague by Frank Norris for a film in 1924. Greed he called his film and illustrated with it what happens to people when they do not love all that life has to offer, but only have one passion, just one single idea. / ... / In Greed, the semblance of reality is magnified through the sheen of gold, for whose sake people kill themselves. For the first copies, Stroheim had them drawn in by hand. A golden tooth, golden bed knobs, a golden cage and golden money. / ... / Nine months took the making of Greed. The first uncut version consisted of 42 rolls."_ Frieda Grafe, Enno Patalas
