Hin und Weg
Christian Zübert
Following Hannes’ wishes, the traditional bike ride with his wife Kiki and mutual friends is off to Belgium. No one knows that it will be his last trip. Terminally ill and signed by his father’s long suffering, Hannes wants to commit euthanasia in Ostend. The real reason behind the tour is not lost for long on the others and is met with total incomprehension. But with every kilometer closer to the end of the journey, the friends understand that they have to accept Hannes’ conscious decision. With his strong ensemble, Christian Zübert achieves not only a forceful and moving contribution to the euthanasia controversy. His film, sponsored by HessenInvestFilm and realised in the Rhine-Main area, is also a balancing act between tragedy and comedy and gives praise to friendship. Courageous, kitsch-free and uncompromising until the end.
_"Scenically, especially in the emotional scenes, Zübert shows great courage, leaving nothing out even during the difficult moments, often abstaining from the use of music and long dialogues, allowing his characters to unfold. HIN UND WEG is on the one hand an honest movie about a self-determined end to life and on the other hand, a hymn to friendship and the beauty that life has to offer every day. A wonderful movie."_ (FBW, rating “extremely valuable")
