Germany 1933: Hans Zeisig (Michael Herbig) parodises Josef Stalin like no other and dreams of a career in Hollywood. Cabaret collegue Siegfried Mayer (Jürgen Vogel), a convinced communist, got the audience’s laughter on his side as the Hitler imitator. When the political situation is worsening and Siggi is forced to flee, Hans realises that there is nothing left to laugh about in Germany. As he cannot get hold of an American passport in a hurry, he arrives without further ado in Moscow using the papers of Jan Hansen, Hitler's personal astrologer. At the Hotel Lux he not only meets all sorts of future celebrities, such as Walter Ulbricht who likes to construct walls out of sugar cubes, but eventually also Stalin himself. As an alleged astrologer he dispenses advice to the dictator until the real Jan Hansen knocks on the door. Haußmann's hotly debated tragicomedy about the infamous emigrant hotel impresses not only with its comedian-double. Amongst all the mix-ups and imitations, it shows how closely related masquerade and political ideology lie. _Sadly Leander Haußmann had to cancel his talk after the film, because of a case of illness in the family.
