Kann der deutsche Film Kunst?

Is German film capable of art?

Aesthetic radicality in cinema

In the 1960s cinema was iconoclastic. What has remained of the liberating power of breaking the rules?

At a time, when, seemingly, anything goes for art, we ask if and where the radicality and power of provocation of a Fassbinder or Schlingensief is still possible in cinema. Or has art run out of opponents?

We also need to debate, what art even is in cinema today. Perhaps the wild gestures of the past cannot be carried on forever? Perhaps today, radicality can be found in preservation and gentle civility?

After all, there is the theory that radicality and provocation are no longer wanted in the new safe spaces of the present age and are no longer possible in adherence to all rules of mindfulness.

Or is it all completely different and there are already rules and bans in place that we simply need to recognize in order to be able to break them?
