Kopfüber (upsidedown)
Bernd Sahling
Kopfüber tells in calm images the story of Sascha. Cigarettes, criminal damage, theft, and bad grades: Sascha is restless and is coming to the attention of his school and the police, again and again. He is quickly angered and is falls victim to his tantrums. People in his environment regularly come to their limits and now he is also threatened with expulsion. As a ten year old he can barely read and write, but he knows quite well bicycles, which he repairs in a shed on the roof. His biggest hobby is to collect noises with his best friend Elli using a microphone and recording device, which they use to mix noise music. His loving but overworked mother only really becomes aware of her son’s deficit, when Frank, a youth welfare officer ordered there by the social services, get’s Sascha to be thoroughly examined by a doctor who declares that he got the "Fidgety-Philip's disease," ADHD. The prescribed medications works wonders, although they can make Sascha tired and taciturn. He passes the school year and the adults are satisfied. Only Elli notices that he has "lost his smile" and distances herself from him. Sascha is faced with the pros and cons of the treatment with the tablets and makes a decision.
Kopfüber had its world premiere at the Berlinale in 2013 and was screened at LUCAS, the international children's film festival in Frankfurt, the same year. The Offenbach company steelecht is responsible for the co-production, who supervised the development of the film in the early stages and, with the help of the Hessische Filmförderung and the Board of Trustees of junger deutscher Film/BKM, supported the completion of the script.
