Leonor Will Never Die (Ang Pagbabali Ng Kwago)
Martika Ramirez Escobar
Within the first few minutes, Martika Remirez Escobar’s meta-movie Leonor Will Never Die aims to confuse. The retired director Leonor Reyes (Sheila Francisco) may have made successful action films, but she also has momentous problems paying her bills. While looking for ways to earn money, Leonor comes across an advertisement for screenplays. Subsequently, she digs up one of her unfinished scripts. The film becomes a film within a film. Leonor essentially plays herself: a grey-haired woman in an apron and flip-flops, maneuvering through a fire of events of her own making. Gradually, she begins to acknowledge and process the pain and violence bubbling in her subconscious. Life often inspires fiction as well.
