Nur Gott kann mich richten
Özgür Yildirim
Having spent five years in jail, Ricky only wants one thing: to build a new life, far from Frankfurt. But where to find the money? When his mate Latif makes him a luring offer, the temptation to descend into the criminal underworld for the last time is strong. It seems to be a safe bet: A faked robbery with a loot of 2.5 kilos of heroin. There is only one problem for Ricki: He needs to bring his brother Rafael onboard, whom he never actually wanted to get into trouble again. At first, everything goes as planned. But suddenly a desperate policewoman, who is as familiar with the laws of the street as they are, gets in the gangsters’ way... Nur Gott kann mich richten explores the dark corners of Frankfurt’s bars and boxing clubs. Between the train station quarter and Industrial ruins a game of cat and mouse begins, which threatens to drag them all into the abyss.
Following his celebrated cinema debut Chiko, director and screenwriter Özgür Yildirim once again stages a genre film which explores the shady businesses of the German criminal underworld. It was shot in the Taunusstraße, in the strip club Pure Platinum, and in Frankfurt’s Industrial Ruins in the Gutleut district. Of course, cameo appearances by XATAR and SSIO were a given. Both gangster rappers are responsible for the film soundtrack, to which Schwesta Ewa also contributed one track. In the past year, Nur Gott kann mich richten has already received the Hessen Film Prize for best film. HessenFilm und Medien supported the film with 350.000 Euros.
