The feature film debut of renowned Icelandic actor and theater director Benedikt Erlingsson is set in a remote valley in Iceland, where neighbors watch each other as if intimacy were the most worthless minor issue in the world. The first official visit of a prospective couple is, therefore, strictly monitored - from a distance and with a corresponding number of binoculars. A bad omen for the young couple … Of _Horses and Men_ seduces through its fantastic imagery, bold, original and with a penchant for bizarre figures (both two-legged and four-legged beings) - a film about the horse in the people and the people in the horse. This year, not just one, but two co-productions of the Mainz-based producer Christoph Thoke (a.o. Tropical Malady) received an Oscar nomination in the category of best foreign language film. Besides _Of Horses and Men_, the comedy Television was shortlisted as well.
