"What topic comes to mind when you think of freedom?" was the question that filmmakers were asked to answer as part of this year's festival. Marisa Meier, the co-writer and producer of "Youth Topia" answered, "The first thing that comes to mind is the grown-up answer: responsibility! The youthful answer might be nicer: drunkenly watching the sunset in the sunflower field, listening to music with friends and not giving a shit that we actually have more important things to do."
Is the sunflower field the place where, in the end, the freshest ideas bloom? Older people can learn a lot from young people, they say - you just have to let them. "Young Professionals to the Table" wants to focus on mutual perception and reinforcement and along numerous guiding questions bring young and old together - the understanders and the dreamers, the maintainers and the unsullied. What does an ideal funding landscape look like? What is the significance of the feature film for directors? What kind of people manage to study film at all, and what kind of freedoms are offered within the framework of their studies? And we should also think about this more often: what connection do filmmakers even have to European film anymore? The point of these rounds is to create a space where people can network, exchange ideas, and ask questions.

Svenja Böttger worked for Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, at the Berlin production company One Two Films, at the ProSieben show "Circus Halligalli" and in the production area of smaller student film projects, during her studies. At the Babelsberg Filmuniversity Konrad Wolf, she directed the in-house student film festival Sehsüchte and took over the artistic direction for the reception of the film schools in Berlin for two years. She has been festival director for six years and co-managing director for the last three years of the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis, the most important festival for young German-speaking filmmakers. In addition to teaching and lecturing at film schools and the University of the Saarland, she serves on various jurys, is deputy chairwoman of the university council of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, and is a jury member of the German Film and Media Rating (FBW). She also advises filmmakers on festival distribution strategies and in 2019 co-initiated AG Filmfestival, the nationwide initiative of film festivals in Germany.
Alfred Holighaus (Vorstand der Stiftung Kuratorium junger deutscher Film)
Nicolas Kronauer studied film at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and focused on production until he graduated in 2017 with the multiple award-winning film "8:27". After further production experience as a junior producer on feature film and commercial productions, he eventually took on the role of executive producer at Darmstadt-based Fourmat Film, where he produces feature films and documentaries. Nicolas holds a teaching position at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in the production department. He is involved in the Hessian film industry and since 2021 has been section head of the newcomer section in the producers' association.
RP Kahl (Filmemacher, Gastprofessor HfG Offenbach)
Julie Kania is managing director of the Stiftung Kuratorium junger deutscher Film, one of the most important funding institutions for young filmmakers. She grew up in Hesse and studied journalism and film studies in Mainz before completing an international master's degree in Audiovisual and Cinema Studies in Frankfurt/Main, London and Barcelona. Julie Kania worked as a freelance journalist and cultural critic for various online and print media. She gained editorial experience at the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and the Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), where she worked for several years on the TV magazine 3sat/Kulturzeit.
Tonio Kellner studied Sociology, Romance Studies and Film Studies at the J.W.Goethe University and is a graduate of the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris for European co-production as well as the International Coproducers Accelerator Program (ICAP) for international and Canadian-European co-production. He is a producer and co-managing partner of Frankfurt-based Neopol Film and co-head of the Producers Association's Young Producers Section. Neopol Film's production focus is the development and production of equally challenging and entertaining feature films of various genres for local as well as international exploitation. In addition, documentary and fictional formats for TV and streamers.
Philipp M.Raube is a producer, matchmaker and graphic designer. Born in Berlin in 1991, he was already fascinated by the flickering of lights and colors on the screen as a child. After training as a graphic designer in Bonn, he expanded his knowledge by studying media production at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts. From 2015, Philipp studied film and television production at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg with the vision to produce authentic and socially relevant films, which he emphasized in 2018 with the production of Luzie Loose's debut film SCHWIMMEN. The film had its world premiere at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival and was awarded the Gold Prize at the 52nd Hof International Film Festival. Further festival participations and awards followed, including Best Cinematography and Best Director. In 2019 Philipp produced his graduation film TALA'VSION by Murad Abu Eisheh, a Syrian war drama, which he realized as a German-Jordanian co-production with SWR and Jordan Film Fund and was honored with the Student Academy Award in Gold in 2021. In 2019, Philipp founded his own production company DIE NEUE LUX to follow his vision and open up opportunities to produce in the pan-European market. His Egyptian-German co-production BIG BOY'S DONT CRY was awarded the Robert Bosch Stiftung Development Prize during the 70th Berlin International Film Festival. Philipp has been Head of Industry at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival since 2020.
Patrick Schaaf has been working as Head of Location Development for HessenFilm und Medien since 2017. His responsibilities include communications, marketing, Film Commission, STEP, diversity and events. During his legal clerkship, he took his first steps in documentary film production and, after graduating, worked in several editorial departments at ZDF/arte, 3sat and ZDFkultur, most recently at 3sat's "Kulturzeit". He then worked as office manager for the mayor of Offenbach.
Sarah Bardehle studied theater at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. During her studies she devoted herself autodidactically to pantomime and clowning. Afterwards she worked as a clown at the Circus Roncalli and at various Varieté formats. During this time, she began her first cinematic works. In 2016, she left the stage and worked on various film and television productions. Finally, in 2018, she began her studies in directing at the self-organized film school filmArche e.V. in Berlin. Since May 2020 she is a member of the board of filmArche.
Antonia Walter was born in Berlin-Mitte in '92 and knew early on that she wanted to make films. During school she worked as a model and lived in the US for a year, where she shot a documentary about a crazy artist collective. After graduating from high school, she then worked as an assistant director and in story development at Buck and DCM and started studying directing at DFFB in 2013. Walther's films are very energetic. She creates worlds where ambivalent and exaggerated characters have their place. Walther loves to have different projects going on at the same time and made her first feature-length film in 2019 after numerous short films. In 2021, she made her first radio play. In the last five years, she often shoots analog and is also in front of the camera herself, editing, producing and doing sound design. In 2022, she began making a film about the 1972 Olympics. In 2021 she interviewed Michael Haneke.
Awarded "Best Producer" by an all-female jury at Filmfest München 2018, Anna de Paoli searches for the "crack in reality" in her productions. With her strengths in development, casting and exploitation, she has supported the creation of unique auteur genre films that have been represented at A-list festivals worldwide and won awards such as the German Independence Award, the Golden Lola and the Silver Méliès. With FILM MACHT SCHULE she initiates encounters between film artistic personalities and children/youth. Her professional credentials include senior lecturer in film production at the DFFB, program manager at the Berlinale/Perspektive Deutsches Kino, funeral trainee and yoga teacher. Anna de Paoli lives with her family in Berlin.
