John Skoog

Sweden during the cold war. A strange atmosphere reigns. The propaganda apparatus is in full swing and the outsider Karl-Göran begins to build his own fort out of scrap and waste. Despite being smiled at by people thinking of him as an amicable weirdo, or even threatened by others, he doesn't let anyone stop him from his mission. Continuously, his bunker is expanding.

The safety instructions from the government become a mantra and the working rhythm a mesmeric pull. Simultaneously, parallels to the present day become more and more apparent.

The Swedish artist and director John Skoog studied at the Städelschule and currently teaches as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Mainz. With Redoubt, he proves his finesse in societal issues and aesthetics. His video installation of the same name, served as an original for the film and got him the prestigious Baloise Art Prize.
