Sometimes, I Imagine Them All at a Party
Daniela Magnani Hüller
An act that will always stay inconceivable. Fourteen years after an attempted femicide, Daniela Magnani Hüller digs up the questions that never stopped tormenting her. As a survivor, she speaks to former teachers and schoolmates, commissars and doctors, who accompanied her before and after the deed. Being impressively collected, she reconstructs the procedures and failures. How could the people arround her let the adolescent offender get away with it? In what way was the attempted murder prosecuted legally and what does it mean for the present day?
In between, associative photo collages and voice-over texts appear: images of sensibility that bring up memories and open up room for the possibility of a life without fear. The traces of trauma are palpable - but the film doesn't turn them over. That way it becomes a visual journey to herself: her face stays far from the camera for a long time, disallowing the victim narrative and opting for one that lays open the circumstances of the deed. Magnani Hüller doesn't want to be pitied, but demands precision. She insists on the question: who bears responsibility?
