Artificial Intelligence is all around us. In schools and elections, dating, shopping, entertainment and war. Fear. Anxiety. Doom. Excitement. Potential. Hope? Hype! This past February, Paris hosted the Global AI Action Summit where the aforementioned topics and emotions were thoroughly discussed, but the underlying assumption was that we’re going forward – with research, development, implementation, security and regulation.

Just two years ago a different call was made, the Future of Humanity Institute published an open letter asking governments, universities, research institutes and commercial ventures to IMMEDIATELY STOP ALL AI DEVELOPMENT, asking for a 6-month global moratorium to implement various regulatory and safety measures. The letter was signed by luminaries, visionaries, scholars and entrepreneurs, including Elon Musk and Prof. Yuval Noah Harrari. What happened in these two years to render this proclamation so obsolete? What can be done, and should we STOP ALL AI?

We’ll start with a joint reading of the 2023 STOP ALL AI open letter, and discuss the genie in the bottle.
