"The Female Fool" – Ulrike Rosenbach
Sung-Hyung Cho, Yvonne Lachmann, AG Rosenbach
Art is personal. Art is political. Especially as a woman? Ulrike Rosenbach, a pioneer of video art and performance, the first rector of the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar, and one of the defining artists of her generation, says: Of course. Director Sung-Hyung Cho dedicates this documentary portrait to her.
At the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, a retrospective is to be created in celebration of Rosenbach’s 80th birthday. The camera accompanies the artist while she is preparing and lets her tell her own story. Little by little, her studio, her archive, her attitude as an artist – her self-evidence – are revealed. What was it like in the 70s as female master student of Joseph Beuys? How did she make her way to international attention? The Female Fool has an answer.
