This is not a film
Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, Jafar Panahi
In "This is not a film", art and politics, past and present are merged in a closely confined space.
This space is the flat of the great Iranian director Jafar Panahi, who has been imprisoned in his home by the regime and banned from his profession. Nevertheless, he invites his colleague Mojtaba Mirtahmasb to help him create something which cannot be a film and yet represents an equally light-footed and profound reflection on the film medium.
Their project shows that art – with its new digital tools – can launch an internal attack on a rigid and repressive political system, which itself has developed from a revolution.
This is not a film, so the story goes, was smuggled on a USB flash drive hidden in a cake to its world premiere in Cannes.
