VANATOARE

Alexandra Balteanu

Lidia, Denisa and Vanessa, three women with three destinies. But one thing unites them: in order to cope with their essential but also quite mundane problems of their bleak everyday life, the women prostitute themselves on a feeder road to Bucharest. Without an iota of voyeurism and yet relentlessly, the young director tells about the scanty expectations of the Romanian women. Driven by the hope of a better life, they stoically continue and refuse to be intimidated not even by the police. In the midst of utter dreariness all that they are left with is a ride home and some ice cream. *ALEXANDRA BALTEANU* has received the coveted *MAX-OPHÜLS-PRIZE* twice this year for its realistic depiction of Romanian suburban reality. The jury praised her _"directorial performance as honest, accurate, dramatic, funny, and unerringly credible."_ The production was realised at the *DEUTSCHE FILM- UND FERNSEHAKADEMIE BERLIN* and is part of the *NEW SERIES, ZUKUNFT DES DEUTSCHEN FILMS* [future of the German film] at the LICHTER Filmfest 2017.
