In 1952, North Korea sent a large number of young students to other socialist countries. With the knowledge gained there, they were to help rebuild the war-torn homeland. Most of them went to the GDR. Especially the female fellow students of the isolated fraternal country quickly developed a strong interest in the exotic guests. Regardless of the political context relationships blossomed, children were born, plans were made. Then, in the early 60s, the Koreans had to give up their new lives and loves and were ordered back. The film tells the story of those left behind, the children and mothers who have never given up their hope for a reunion despite their emotional pain. A native of South Korea, Sung-Hyung Cho (Full Metal Village) lives in Frankfurt am Main since the 90s and works as a film editor and director. In her latest film, she focuses on a little-known chapter of German-Korean history.
