Wiñaypacha (Eternity)
Óscar Catacora
Willka and Phasi live five thousand metres above the ocean and a day´s journey from the next town. With their sheep and an alpaca, they inhabit a small shed in the Peruvian Andes. During the day, they take care of the animals or they collect herbs. Side by side, they defy wind and weather. At night, they lie close to each other in order to keep warm. It seems they would be able to enjoy a shared eve in comfort – if only the next shop wasn´t a dangerous hike away, if the wild animals would spare them, and if their son came to visit once again.
It is widely known that many indigenous peoples were and are still being deprived of their lands. Even if the old married couple Wiñaypacha doesn´t directly have to deal with this topic, the film is a heart-wrenching parable dealing with the everyday struggles of indigenous people in our world as they usually don´t attract a lot of attention.
