LICHTER Competitions: Submissions Begin for Regional Films, VR Productions and Video Arts.
The LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International is looking for new film productions for its 15th festival edition. Feature films and short films can now be submitted.
We are also looking for new productions for the 12th LICHTER Art Award and the 6th VR Storytelling Award.
Regional Feature and Short Films
Both young talents and established filmmakers can now submit their works, of all genres that have been (co)produced or filmed in the Rhein-Main area since 2021, were made by filmmakers based in the region or significant (post)production steps were carried out in the region, for the regional feature and short film competitions until March 1st, 2022. Films that have received significant regional funding are also called for participation in the LICHTER competitions.
During the festival, two juries will be presented at the award ceremony on May 15th, 2021.
The 11th LICHTER Art Award
Next year, the LICHTER Art Award will be presented for the eleventh time. Artists can submit contemporary films and video arts of all genres until March 1st, 2022.
After the deadline, a three-person jury will select five finalists, whose works will be broadcasted in a curated exhibition during the festival week. The winner of the competition will receive a monetary prize of 1,000 Euros and will be announced in the opening evening on May 15th, 2022. Last year, over 150 works from all over the world were submitted.
The 6th LICHTER VR Storytelling Award
Since 2017, LICHTER has presented a worldwide competition for 360-degree films. A lot has happened since then: The underlying VR technology is constantly evolving. The films’ techniques are becoming finer, and their contents are more masterful and creative. At first, the focus was on the technical and formal presentation of classic narratives and documentary formats, which is now shifting towards more concrete contents.
Thanks to the timely adaptation of a new medium into a classic festival format, LICHTER has become one of the most important VR film festivals worldwide. After numerous sold-out screenings and more than 80 international submissions in 2021, the VR section is now an integral part of the festival.
Filmmakers are welcomed to submit their fictional and documentary VR films that explore the 360-degree range in an innovative way for its narrative potential by March 1st, 2022. A renowned jury of experts will award five finalists. The winner of the competition, awarded with a monetary prize of 1,000 Euros, will be announced during the festival.
