Between urban wilderness, summer skies, and the Frankfurt skyline: The Frankfurt Open-Air Cinema

The thirteenth season is behind us, and once again, the courtyard of the Old Police Headquarters became a place where cinema extended far beyond the screen.

People played table tennis, made music, clinked glasses, danced, and stayed late into the night. A special evening: For the Hesse premiere of FÜR IMMER 16, Brezel Göring himself took the stage with his band Psychoanalyse. Cold drinks, warm summer evenings, and films that lingered in the mind long after the credits rolled were just as much a part of the experience as all the little encounters between the opening of the doors and the end credits.

And sometimes, cinema and reality blurred completely: At our UGLY WEDDING PARTY for THE DRAMA, there was cake, a bouquet, wedding speeches, shots, and a photo wall. And a couple who had gotten engaged at the open-air cinema at the start of our season actually returned to us later in their wedding attire. You could hardly have imagined a more beautiful story.

It’s exactly these kinds of evenings that define the Frankfurt Open-Air Cinema for us: when a movie turns into a celebration, the audience becomes a community, and a courtyard transforms into its own little world for a few hours.

We’ve captured many of these special moments. You can now find a selection of them in our photo gallery.
