Over the past decades, Frank Spilker and his band “Die Sterne” have shaped the local (underground) pop scene like few others, playing a key role in what later came to be known as the Hamburger Schule movement. In the early 1990s, he revolutionized songwriting with his lyrics — and also the way song lyrics were perceived in Germany. Songs such as “Universal Tellerwäscher” or “Was hat dich bloß so ruiniert” still stand today as examples of how pop music can be intellectually sharp without losing its groove. Each of the now more than a dozen Sterne albums impresses not only musically but equally through Spilker’s lyricism.
At LICHTER, Frank Spilker will perform solo — an evening in which songs and language move even closer together: classic Sterne tracks in a new, more focused form, along with insights into the stories behind the lines.
