Call for entries - LICHTER Art Award 2020
In 2020 the LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International is celebrating the LICHTER Art Award 10th anniversary. The LICHTER Art Award is an international competition and curated exhibition aiming to present the most innovative, diversified and qualitative artistic work in the contemporary field of motion picture employed in visual art. The exhibition will take place in collaboration with basis e.V..
Artists and filmmakers are cordially invited to apply to the LICHTER ART AWARD 2020 until February 2, 2020. The best works will be selected by an international jury of contemporary art experts.
The five finalists`works will be shown in a curated exhibition at Künstlerhaus basis in Frankfurt am Main from 3rd to 26th April 2020. The winner of the LICHTER Art Award receives a 1.000 Euro prize.
Accepted are works using film and video as primary media. The competition is open to visual artists, filmmakers and students from corresponding study fields.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All visual artists, film directors, art and film students can take part in the competition. Only works that use film or video as the main medium will be accepted. All established formats are accepted. Special formats or room installation must be discussed in advance with the curator Saul Judd.
- The finished work must be submitted by February 2, 2020
- The competition entry form shall be filled only electronically
- The work should be new or not older than 1 year from the date of the submission. And be designed as a single-channel projection or a room installation.

IMPORTANT: The LICHTER Art Award is not a laboratory - it is a showcase for finished works (no trailers or excerpt). We will accept all established formats. In case that the work requires a special presentation format or is a room installation, please contact the curator, via e-mail, in advance.

About the LICHTER Art Award
Founded in 2011, the LICHTER ART AWARD is an international competition with an curated exhibition. Its goal is to present the most recent and multifaceted artistic video works from the contemporary visual arts. The last winners of the LICHTER ART AWARD are Luciana Lamothe (Argentina, 2011), Oliver Husain (Canada, 2012), John Skoog (Sweden 2013), Bertrand Flanet (France, 2014), Jonathan Van Essche (Belgium, 2015), James N. Kienitz Wilkins (USA, 2016), Tobi Sauer (Germany 2017), Jakob Engel (Germany 2018) and Andrew de Freitas (Brasil, 2019).
