Regional film programme 2026

The programme for the Regional Feature Film Competition at the 19th LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International is as diverse as the region’s film industry itself. Four world premieres, two German premieres and four Hesse premieres promise a cinematic adventure full of surprising perspectives and distinctive artistic styles.

The ten selected films offer insights into a wide variety of lived experiences – ranging from studies of Frankfurt’s social milieu to intimate portraits of artists and intercontinental encounters – whilst also highlighting the growing significance of Hessian filmmaking beyond the region. All the films were shot or (co-)produced in Hesse or the Rhine-Main area; their filmmakers live or work here, or have carried out key production and post-production stages in the region.
