Regional Program in 2019

The films of the regional long and short film programme bring the entire range of Hessian filmmaking to the screen. LICHTER is excited to present the audience an unusually strong and facetted regional competition in 2019. All productions were realised with the participation of filmmakers and patrons from Hesse and the Rhine-Main region.

Monowi Nebraska (documentary // D 2018 // 80 min.) is celebrating ist world premiere at LICHTER. In the film, Lilo Mangelsdorff is visiting a town out in nowhere in America. What is special: only one inhabitant and her diner remain.

As a German premiere, producer Christoph Thoke from Mainz is presenting the film Erased (Director: Miha Mazzini// feature film // SLO/SRB/CRO 2018 // 85min.) in Frankfurt.

The Watson’s Hotel (Director: Ragunath VasudevanPeter Rippl, Nathaniel Knop // documentary, D/IND 2018 // 82 min.) about the life in a ruined hotel in the Indian capital Mumbai has ist German premiere at LICHTER as well.

Numerous Hessian premieres

The visitors can look forward to numerious Hessian premieres. In Atlas (feature film // D 2018 // 99 min.), the director David Nawráth tells a story of father and son that turns into a gripping thriller under the pressure of criminal rent terminations.

Michael Schwarz’s debut Die Kandidaten (documentary // D 2019 // 82 min.) portrays six young politicians and shows how electoral campaigns work right at the foundation, far away from Berlin.

For Facing The Dragon (documentary // US 2018 // 80 min.), the director Sedika Mojadidi followed a successful Afghan journalist for a number of years.  As the US-military leaves the ruined country and the Taliban becomes responsible for continued terror, the young woman flees to Darmstadt.

The Lauenstein-brothers are presenting their new animated film Die sagenhaften Vier (director: Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein// animated film // D/B 2018 // 84 min.) about the pet kitten Marnie – fun for the whole family.

The jury decides who gets to take home the White Bembel. The Jury consists of actress Jenny Schily, the director Susanne Heinrich (winner of the Max-Ophüls-Preis 2019for the film Das melancholische Mädchen) and the distributor Birgit Gamke (Die FilmagentInnen)

The regional short film

21 film productions are competing for the regional short film prize. Director Isabel Gathof, Jonatan Schwenk, the winner of the LICHTER audience award 2018 and the manager of the Filmhaus Frankfurt Ralph Förg are forming the Jury of the competition.
