Motherhood (La Maternal)
Pilar Palomero
Carla is a rebel. She doesn’t let anyone tell her anything, least of all her single mother - until she gets pregnant at the age of fourteen. She comes into the care of the “La Maternal” centre, where, together with the other girls, she learns about what motherhood is like. An emotional portrait of motherhood with an outstanding young actress.

Press Reviews
“It is hard not to fall in love with this movie: thanks to its great sense of tact, it allows for a sensitive and profound look at a reality that offers itself to easy clichés (...) it is a movie that is as painful as it is exciting.” (Elsa Fernández-Santos, El País)
The Director About the Film
The idea was to develop the movie in a way that would make it seem like it was not scripted. As a filmmaker and a lover of cinema, I dislike categorising films as “documentaries” or “feature films;” the line between the two is blurry. My goal is to capture life. Not necessarily improvised, but as realistic as possible.
